Hey There
My name is Deetje Frederick and I’ve been helping train the dogs of San Jose since mid-2019. I believe in developing a mutual understanding between you and your pet, because caring for an animal in your home is as much about responsibility as it is about love. All About Me
I have had a passion for animals for as long as I can remember, growing up with a plethora of pets definitely helped that. The relationship I had with my pets, especially my dogs, got me through a lot growing up. The unconditional love my dogs gave me and my family made me love them even more. By becoming a dog trainer/caregiver, I want to help build a relationship between you and your dog that is beneficial to both of you.
My passion for dog training began when I was 10. I had the most loving chocolate Labrador Retriever ever. His name was Copper (yes, my business is named after him). My family decided to do private training lessons for him and had me be the main person training him. He showed me how great a dog can be with the proper training.
I was originally taught to train dogs traditionally (with shock-collars and dominance). However, after going through school with Animal Behavior College and becoming a Certified Dog Trainer (ABCDT) I learned that the most beneficial way to train dogs is through modern positive based training. Through modern training, you can build a respectful relationship between you and your dog.
I worked at A Dog's Life Doggy Daycare (now We Love Dogs Daycare (WLD)) for almost 4 years. This daycare focuses on using modern training to work with dogs and has taught me a lot over the years. While I am sad to be leaving this daycare, I appreciate everything it has taught me.
I have also volunteered at Human Society Silicon Valley as a training assistant in their group puppy classes. This has only helped me further my training experience over the past year. Not only getting experience helping run puppy playgroups but also helping with the actual training, working with puppies and their owners.
On top of all of my dog training experience, I have been pet sitting since I was 15 and have worked with a wide variety of dogs and other pets. When owners are away, I do my absolute best to make the pets as comfortable as possible. That can be in your home or mine to make things work out as best for you and your pet.
I love my job which is my passion and I can't wait to share all of it with you.
